Dermoid Cyst
A dermoid cyst is a type of benign tumor . In children, these are most
commonly found on the face at the lateral border of the upper orbital ridge (at the outer
margin of the eyebrow). Dermoid cysts may contain a jumble of glandular tissue, hair
follicles, hair shafts, fatty and connective tissues. They are usually surgically removed
by an ophthamologist for cosmetic reasons. If your child is suspected to have a dermoid
cyst, a CT scan will usually be done to rule out any extension of the mass through the
skull. |
