Intermittent positive pressure breathing picture
Intermittent positive pressure breathing is a technique used to provide short-term or
intermittent mechanical ventilation for the purpose of augmenting lung expansion,
delivering aerosol medication, or assisting ventilation. A caveat, however, is that
Intermittent positive pressure breathing is not the therapy of first choice for delivering
aerosol or a method of lung hyperinflation to be used in spontaneously breathing patients
when other less expensive therapies can reliably meet the clinical objectives prescribed
for the patient.
